Heard on headphones, Hd-Klassik’s 3D Binaural Series offers a more involving, if not altogether immersive sonic experience. Jörg Endebrock’s arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition for the twin Walcker and Klais organs in Wiesbaden’s Lutheran Church benefits from the definite sense of space and movement. But his decidedly monochrome arrangement is something of a disappointment. Rheinberger’s Second Organ Concerto fares better, Endebrock stressing its lyrical ebb and flow and making much of its simple motivic building blocks. Konrad Graf’s percussion in both pieces lacks necessary muscularity and gravity.
