About
Joseph Woelfl (1773–1812), a friend of the Mozart family from childhood, was one of the best-known musicians of his day. He fought a famous ‘piano duel’ with Beethoven in Vienna and became a worthy successor to Haydn in the musical life of London, where his music made him a wealthy man and where he was an important member of the ‘London piano school’.
