Here are 25 composers who exemplify, each in singular manner, 50 years of Musiques Nouvelles. They – two of whom are female – were born between 1929 (the birth year of their leader Henri Pousseur) and 1971. They are based in the Wallonie-Brussels Federation of Belgium as witnesses to its great diversity and astonishing musical riches. An entire CD pays homage to the first among them, the late Henri Pousseur, without whom Musiques Nouvelles would not exist. He, with Pierre Bartholomée, founded the ensemble and it was thanks to him that musical life in Belgium enjoyed an exceptional flowering.
The box-set presents, over 6 CDs, one work of each of the other 24 composers. Each work is a milestone in the history of Musiques Nouvelles. Each was commissioned by Musiques Nouvelles, each was first performed and recorded by the musicians of the ensemble.
