March 2012
few such accomplished exponents of Rossini are able to summon up the plaintive contralto-ish sonority to create the right atmosphere for Mahler. That Boulianne can project the pervasive feeling of sadness without excessive weight is partly a factor of the 'domestic' arrangements employed...one of today's most promising singers is notably well served.

I was at once struck by the sheer beauty of her voice, her care over nuance and her intensity in expression. It’s a vibrant voice but not excessively so...There are many superb recordings of both these cycles and it is practically impossible to pick a clear winner, but Julie Boulianne belongs among the best.
