Mendelsssohn’s incidental music for Sophocles’ Greek tragedy Oedipus at Colonus is much less well known than its companion piece Antigone. The score contains nine pieces in which the choruses from Sophocles’ tragedy were set to music. “At the moment no-one appears more competent for Mendelssohn than Frieder Bernius…” (Zeitzeichen, October 2009).
