Le Flûtiste (the flutist), a major paintwork by Rik Wouters, remains a particularly seductive view of Music by the Fauvists. It strongly reminds the fascinating atmosphere of the third of Eugene Goossens' Three Pictures, one of the many premieres to discover on this CD that takes a flight for unknown islands: Belgian 20th cy. works for flute and piano. A young soloist in the National Orchestra of Belgium, Denis-Pierre Gustin shows the way with his partner Carmen-Elena Rotaru: a course from the late romanticism of Joseph Jongen to the subtle East-West contemporary encounters of Hao-Fu Zhang (whose string quartets will be released soon by Cypres, with the Danel Quartet), going over well-known composers as Marcel Poot or Jacques Leduc, and a forgotten master, Léon Stekke, so appreciated by his students at the Royal Consevatory of Brussels. A welcome enrichment of the repertoire!
