"Orestes is a score which meticulously records a performance that never took place; a written registration of a purely illusory event; a reminiscence of all tragedies, passions and high masses I witnessed imageless, because I always closed my eyes in order to really experience it." - composer Boudewijn Tarenskeen about Orestes, a work written for soloists (seventeen actors, three vocalists), chorus, instrumental ensemble and two improvisers, to be performed in a concert setting. The work is divided into four acts, each with its own thematic content, translated into a musical synonym: chamber music, oratorio, opera and requiem.
