Savoy Jazz

Savoy Jazz

Savoy Records was established by American radio host Herman Lubinsky in 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. The label was responsible for recording some of the biggest names in 1940s jazz, most notably Miles Davis, Errol Garner, Dexter Gordon and Charlie "Bird" Parker. Savoy was also a key label in the development of avant-garde jazz, releasing albums from artists like Paul Bley, Archie Shepp and Sun Ra during the 1960s.
