The Presto Chart - April 2018
The Presto editorial team spend a lot of time holding court about the recordings which we’ve been enjoying, so in the interests of redressing the balance a little we’ve decided to start sharing details of what’s been most popular with our customers by listing our 25 best-selling titles across all formats for the last calendar-month.
Rachel Podger’s witty, atmospheric and unhackneyed recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons has stormed to first place by some margin, suggesting that there’s always room for a fresh take on even the most frequently-recorded repertoire, whilst excitement is clearly building for the DVD and Blu-ray release of Jonas Kaufmann’s role-debut as Otello (not due out until 11th May, it’s nonetheless made it to No. 4 in the chart). And it’s great to see a resurgence of enthusiasm for Bernard Haitink’s Mahler 3 on BR Klassik, which was released last January but has been attracting a second round of attention this month after winning Recording of the Year at the BBC Music Magazine Awards. Several of our recent interviewees also make an appearance – as well as Rachel (who spoke to Katherine about The Four Seasons last week), Robin Ticciati, Edward Gardner and Masaaki Suzuki all feature in the top ten.
