Cyrille Dubois on Fauré and treasures of the French Baroque
The Song Prize at this year's Gramophone Awards went to Cyrille Dubois and Tristan Raës for their superb survey of Fauré's complete songs on Aparté, which prompted reviewer Mark Pullinger to describe the French tenor as 'a stylish, cultured performer and as fine an advocate for Fauré’s mélodies as any of the best'.
In the wake of the awards ceremony, Cyrille filmed a short video for us (shot on location by the Seine!) about the challenges and the joy of being the first singer to tackle all of Fauré's songs on record, and about the three contrasting singers who inspired much of the music on his new album with the Orfeo Orchestra and Hungarian conductor György Vashegyi - Jouissons de nos beaux ans!, exploring lost treasures of the French Baroque, and including arias from operas by Dauvergne, Rameau, Francoeur, Grenet and Royer...
